Aspiring game designers revealed their game design expertise during the FMC Games Industry Review on 22 June 2017.

Students as well as industry visitors beta tested several games that were designed by Faculty of Multimedia Creativity students. These students created games of various genres such as first-person shooters, multiplayer sports, real-time strategies, and puzzles.

The test session was organised the Faculty of Multimedia Creativity to enable students to present their game projects. These games presented include a futuristic space soccer ‘Apploid’, an Unreal Engine based shooter ‘Scinetic’ and a puzzle solving strategy ‘Heavenly Escape’.

The showcase also provided a platform for students to present their portfolios and game development skills to industry guests and recruiters. Attending the showcase were representatives from Inspidea, Animamundi, VHQ, Streamline Studios, Glue Studios, Meccanica EFX, Outpost Production and LemonSky Games.

“These presentations were a good way to find out more information on the students,” said Weyrd Works representative Junn Tseng. “I think it also benefits the students, as it helps them to prepare for the industry.”

He also explained that the hands-on methodology of the showcase enables aspiring designers and game developers to conduct trial runs and identify issues such as the strengths and weaknesses of their skills and talents.

“It was a good effort for the showcase, whereby students can introduce their own product,” said Lemon Sky Games & Animation Production Manager Kevin Lai Han Ween. “I hope to see more production and progress breakdown.”

The showcase also serves as a platform for students to develop their presentation skills while becoming highly marketable graduates.

“This event helps us to promote ourselves to the industry,” said Bachelor in Games Technology student Tan Wei Yang. “I learned a lot of things from this experience, and we learn to conduct ourselves professionally.”

Chris Chiew Seng Jie who is studying Bachelor of Arts in Games Design, learned to develop his leadership skills and resilience in project management.

“Events such as these also help to build reputation for students,” he added. “Industry guests who visit the event enable us to get in contact with them and learn more about the company, and the industry.”
