Limkokwing students receive Certificate of Appreciation from Eco World

2 November 2015

Limkokwing students received Certificates of Appreciation from Eco World Development Group for creating 12 Chinese Zodiac signs for the company’s annual Mid- Autumn festival on 19 Oct.

The project involved over 50 students from Product Design, Professional Design, Event Management and Foundation in Design. The designs were between 2 to 7 feet based on the Chinese Zodiac symbols and were constructed from recycled materials.

These sculptures reflected the company’s pledge towards the community and environment during the L’art Est Eco festival on 3 Oct at the Eco Majestic property development project in Semenyih.

Eco World Group Talent Management, Support Services Senior Manager Erica Loh was impressed by the students’ level of commitment and added that they had placed a lot of thought into creating the sculptures.

“Limkokwing University is well known for its creativity,” she said. “We were thrilled to be able to collaborate with them.”

“It is always a good idea to get fresh new perspective from younger generations,” Eco World Executive Director Liew Tian Xiong said. “More importantly, it keeps us fresh.”

“We hope that this will help the students by giving them a perspective on what it is like to work for a company before they joined the workforce.”

The collaboration gave students the opportunity to express their creativity while gaining practical exposure from the industry.

“I have never experienced such event before but I know it will mean a lot to me when I work,” said Egyptian student Rehan Ehab who is studying Professional Design under the Faculty of Design Innovation.

For her, the collaboration taught her the value of teamwork whereby it becomes easier to focus and face risks. “With teamwork, you can do anything together,” she said.

“It is a great opportunity to learn to produce my own idea and then sell it to clients,” said Arslan Saleem from Pakistan, who is studying Event Management under the Faculty of Communication, Media & Broadcasting. “This is really good as it will help me in the future.”

Indonesian student Stanley Febriyanto who is studying Industrial Design under the Faculty of Design Innovation said the project was good exercise to create a design and express themselves.

“We got the chance to experience with various materials and think about the strength of a product,” he said.

Limkokwing University engages in collaboration projects with various companies that provide students with practical experience to help them succeed in the working environment. These projects allow students to gain industry exposure while learning to develop their networking opportunities.
