Limkokwing University hosted the second International Debating Championship, a three-day debate competition whereby over 200 students in 68 teams competed against each other from 25 to 27 Mac.

The event was officiated by Senior Assistant Director Tuan Haji Mohd Anuar bin Abdul Hamid, a representative from the Ministry of Education. Organised by Limkokwing University, it was supported and endorsed by the Ministry of Education Malaysia, Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia and Malaysian Institute for Debate and Public Speaking.

The Limkokwing International Debate Championship provides a platform for aspiring youths to hone their skills for strategic thinking and public speaking.

This competition emphasised soft skill development through a series of debates and creative seminars. It also enables students to develop persuasive skills and innovative reasoning while harnessing their creative potential.

This year’s Debate Championship covered various topics encompassing ethics, morality and law. Debate topics motioned include ‘Should music containing lyrics that glorify violence be banned?’ and ‘Should a technological advanced individual share their knowledge with a corrupt police force to combat crime.”

“Limkokwing University inspires us to use our creativity and to think out of the box,” said Amir Aniq bin Abdul Haziz from the Malay College Kuala Kangsar after his team won Runner-up position. “There were a lot of competitors here and this challenge was great for us.”

Kishen Sivabalan, a member for the Debate Team Champion from SMK Sri Permata said the exposure provided him with the chance to develop his ability to present his ideas while exposing him to new challenges.

“We have been training for a long time to win this debate competition,” he said. “This competition enabled us to improve our soft skills and artistic talents.”

He also mentioned that Limkokwing University exposed them to a holistic learning experience which appeals to both scientific and artistic individuals.

After completing the event, award recipients received full tuition fees from the Mahasiswa Scholarship Fund from Limkokwing University to further their studies.

His Royal Highness Sultan Pahang, Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri’Ayatuddin Al-Mu’Adzam Shah DKP has established the Mahasiswa Sultan Ahmad Shah Scholarship programme in January. The scholarship programme was created to enable young Malaysians to further their studies with scholarship opportunities worth RM10 million.

Limkokwing University emphasises the importance of creativity to groom future leaders. Students learn to harness their creative skills to apply effective techniques and solve complex problems.
