Supporting the Local Creative Industry

FINAS Director General YBhg Dato’ Kamil Othman visited Limkokwing University on Feb 4 to discuss collaborative efforts in building Malaysia’s creative content through training and certification.

The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) is Malaysia’s central governing agency for the local film industry. The agency aims to strengthen Malaysia’s film industry and services while promoting local creative content to the international market as well as developing and preserving local content.

FINAS has engaged various creative industry associations to improve Malaysia’s global competitiveness and content quality.

The agency has introduced a “Co-Production Fund” that provides financial assistance for film projects that are co-produced by a Malaysian company with one or more foreign companies.

FINAS’s recent successful co-productions included “Lelaki Harapan Dunia” (Everything Films, Malaysia with Volya Films, the Netherlands; Flying Moon Filmproduktion, Germany; Mandra Films, France and others), “Welcome to the Railworld – Japan” (Primeworks Studios, Malaysia with Nippon TV, Japan); “Upin, Ipin dan Ultraman Ribut “(Les’ Copaque Production, Malaysia with Tsuburaya Productions, Japans); and “Bubble Bath Bay” (Lemon Sky Animation and Ideate Media, Malaysia with Telegael, Ireland).

Limkokwing University often participates in various collaborative efforts that aim to build Malaysia’s creative industry through training and benchmarking creative content. These include developing vocational skills, talent upskilling and content licensing agreement.

The University promotes and trains aspiring talents through industry exposure by participating in various cinematography competitions, short-film production, animation contests and movie exhibitions.
