Food Court

The land of the Khmer offers cuisine revolving on its staple food: rice. Most meals come with a bowl of rice and a partner dish like stir-fried meat, soup, or curry. Each dish is flavourful—ranging from sweet, sour, salty, to bitter—and will satisfy every craving and appetite.

Noodles are extremely popular and roadside stalls are especially packed in the evenings. One variant, the rice noodle soup, was introduced by Chinese settlers and remains a cherished dish today.

As a former French colony, the country also has French dishes that are enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. This includes the baguette, a type of bread usually enjoyed for breakfast, with a mixture of meat paste called pâté, tinned sardines, or eggs.

Below are some of the must-try Khmer foods:
Bai sach chrouk (pork and rice)
Fish amok (steamed curried fish)
Lap Khmer (beef salad)
Nom banh chok (Khmer noodles)
Kdam chaa (fried crab)
Ang dtray-meuk (grilled squid)
Cha houy teuk (sweet jelly dessert)
Red tree ants with beef
