A deep commitment to physical, emotional, social, spiritual and intellectual development of children
In children she has invested her care and concern, eager to provide them, especially the physically challenged, with every opportunity to unlock their potential so they may become active members of society.
She began her quest in 1995 converting her own house in Kuantan, Pahang to accommodate the teaching and care of children who needed assistance.
The eldest daughter of His Highness the Sultan of Pahang, YAM Tengku Puteri Seri lela Wangsa Pahang presides over the management of the Institute Tengku Ampuan Afzan (INTAZ) - named in memoty of her mother, the late Tengku Ampuan of Pahang.
INTAZ has a mission to nurture and develop children using a holistic programme that addresses their physical, emotional, social, spiritual and intellectual development.
She wanted very badly to see these children progress and searched for new trends in childcare that could give her the means to nurture them. She even explored in-utero development which is a programme that stimulates the brain function of children while they are still in the womb.
But it was in the Glenn Doman method that she found what she was looking for. She franchised the programme and introduced it into her Institute. Today she is immensely proud of the fact that the method has helped two disabled children to walk and a child with Down's syndrome to read at the age of four.
INTAZ has now expanded into 6 centres within Pahang and she is working to set up a centre in Kuala Lumpur.
An infectious, bubbly personality with a great love for the outdoors and sports
Despite her royal upbringing, steeped in traditions, pomp and pageantty, she remains humble and well-grounded with an infectious, bubby personality that endears her to both mends and family.
Her staff finds her immensely approachable with a motherly disposition. They admire the ease with which she is able to move smoothly through diffrerent levels of society and how a day spent with the children at the Institute can fill her with so much joy.
A mother of five she leads an active life with many social commitments. She is President of the Pergerakan Puteri Islam Pahang. She also sits in the Board of Trustees of MajIis Kanser Negara (MAKNA).
A businesswoman she is involved in the management of a number of enterprises such as TAS Industries, TAS Fraser Resort, TAS Management, AZIM Development, Muhaini Enterprise, Kreatif Selaras and Kotasas.
Her love for the outdoors and sports is something that she has inherited from her father. Till today she plays golf and badminton and is Vice-President of Hockey Pahang as well as Persatuan Badminton Tengku Ampuan Afzan.
However, despite her heavy social and business schedule she always makes time to be with her husband, YABhg Dato' Sri Mohamad Toufic Al-Ozeir and her children as she is a firn believer that it is the mother who is responsible for a happy and harmonious home.
For her distinguished social contribution, the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, considers it a privilege and an honour to award Her Royal Highness Tengku Puteri Seri LeLa Wangsa Pahang, Tengku Tan Sri Hajjab Meriam binti Sultan Ahmad Shah, DK., SIMP., PSM., JP with the Honorary Doctorate of Leadership in Social Development.
