Julianne Flolo from Norway

Julianne Flolo is from a country that has the world’s biggest sovereign fund, Norway. Her initial plan was to study in France but after being recommended Limkokwing University, she changed her plans and enrolled in February 2017.

She is studying Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Communication with Psychology for one semester as an exchange student.

Journey to a Journalism Career

A career in journalism has not always been what Julianne wanted to do. After finishing high school, she didn’t know which direction to take.

“I had to do something that would provide me with a lot of opportunities. I like taking pictures and writing so I finally settled for journalism and luckily found a job for a local newspaper in Norway. I have been working there for about a year. It gives me a chance to practise what I learn in class which I feel is very important.”

Exchange Student Experience

Julianne said her experience in Limkokwing University has been insightful so far.

“Limkokwing University opened a lot of opportunities for me. Here, students are exposed to a lot of practical work. Students get involved in projects like Fashion Club, ambassadorship, and workshops.”

She acknowledged that it is beneficial for students to get industry experience before they graduate. “For fields like media, it is already very difficult to stand out because there are plenty in the same field. You have to be very good to beat competition.”

“A Limkokwing education experience graduates you with many steps ahead of your peers.”

Advice for Aspiring Journalists

“Most people think that success in journalism only revolves around knowing how to write or tell a story. One has to know so much about what’s happening around the world, in their society, and in different cultures. You have to know the ins and outs of conflicts, governments, systems, and operations, as well as why things are happening the way they are.”

Julianne also believes it is important for one to know their values and ethics and make sure everything that they do is in line with them.
