Limkokwing Alumnus designs Sri Lanka’s first Electric car

18 June 2020

Limkokwing’s Bachelor of Design (Hons) in Transport Design alumnus Dakshan Navodya Wijesinghe is working on designing Sri Lanka’s first ever electric supercar car.

The 25-year-old discovered his passion for designing cars at a young age when he used to find himself enjoying nothing but drawing cars.

“Since I learned how to hold a pen, I have drawn nothing but cars. I was 12 when I decided to become a car designer. My ultimate dream was to see the car I drew on my sketchbook turn into reality,” he said.

To pursue his childhood dream, Dakshan joined Limkokwing University in 2013 to study Transport Design. That part of his journey super-charged his creativity and put him on the right path to make his dream come true.

“Being surrounded by talented people from different backgrounds in a highly creative environment was a great experience on its own. The Limkokwing experience made it easier for me to work amongst creative individuals without feeling intimidated.”

Currently, Dakshan is an Automotive/ Industrial Designer at Vega Innovations. He’s working with his team on creating the first ever electric supercar in Sri Lanka.

His main job is developing the car’s design for its next generation.

“Most of what I work on with cars is the UI/UX on the infotainment system, some interior components and various exterior design components.”

“Another project I worked on was an electric conversion project where my team and I converted a classic mini cooper to a fully electric car with restyled interiors and modern touches to the exterior,” he added.

As a word of advice to those students tailing in the same direction, Dakshan reminds them to focus on the process, not the results.

“Chase progress rather than perfection, it is the only way to grow. And stay humble; you are never as good as they say nor as bad as they make you feel,” he concluded.
