11 November 2020

Limkokwing University partnered with Eswatini’s National Emergency Response Council for HIV/AIDS (NERCHA) to manage and implement an HIV/AIDS prevention-campaign in Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.

Signed in Mbabane, the memorandum (MoU) of understanding marked the official start of a partnership aimed at reducing emerging HIV/AIDS infections among youth, particularly those within the three African nations. Limkokwing University will help create, produce and publish awareness content while ensuring that messages reach targeted audiences through relevant media.

Speaking during the MoU signing ceremony, the Director of NERCHA, Khanya Mabuza said, “Our partnership with Limkokwing University aims to use new technologies to reach critical populations and address issues of stigma and misconceptions regarding HIV/AIDS. I am happy that Limkokwing University is a youth-driven institution that shares the same passion we have about addressing HIV/AIDS issues among the youth”.

Mabuza also highlighted how important the upcoming project is, as it is a major part of ensuring that Eswatini meets its Millennium Development Goal of ending new HIV infections by 2022.

“The project will ensure that 90% of Eswatini’s population is aware of the country’s goal of ending new HIV infections by 2022,” he added.

The Kingdom of Eswatini has made its commitment to End AIDS as a public health threat by the year 2022. Initiated in 2015 in line with global targets geared towards ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030, the Kingdom has carried out initiatives that saw new infections reduced by 44 percent since 2014, against a target of 50 percent. Eswatini continues to strengthen measures to ensure HIV/AIDS prevention and impact.
