Limkokwing University & IDM collaborate to enhance the quality of Lesotho’s tertiary education sector
Limkokwing University Lesotho signed an MOU with the Institute of Development Management (IDM) recently in efforts to enhance, provide opportunities and ultimately transform Lesotho’s tertiary education sector.
IDM Lesotho was established to provide education, training, research and consultancy in, Human Resources Management & Organisational Development, Business Information Resources Management and Public Health Management.
Present at the signing ceremony were The IDM management and staff, Ministry of Education & Training – Manager Tertiary, Industry Advisors, Limkokwing University management and staff and the media fraternity.
In her welcome remarks, the Registrar of Limkokwing, Mrs. ‘Mateboho Moorosi mentioned that the main objectives of the signing of the memorandum of understanding was to formalise the relationship between Limkokwing and IDM because they have been working together for years.
“Limkokwing University has since been accepting graduates from IDM to upgrade their qualifications from diploma to degree. The signing of this MoU will formalise this procedure and will ensure that credit transfer and accumulation will be done with ease for students who qualify for exemption when joining Limkokwing University,” she highlighted.
Mr. Thuso Green, the local IDM Local Board Member mentioned that this is a great initiative by both institutions because both are present in three different SADC countries and therefore could possibly be the pioneers of a great relationship.
“IDM is present in three SADC countries namely, Lesotho, Eswatini and Botswana. Our new partner Limkokwing is also present in in those exact countries. This is therefore a great initiative by the Lesotho campuses because one expects this amazing initiative to be copied in the other two sister campuses. We look forward to a successful relationship between the two institutions,” he said.
The IDM Country Director Dr. Moeketsi Letele highlighted the key areas of collaboration as depicted in the MoU.
“The areas for collaboration as depicted in the MoU include following: the development of collaborative research projects; the organization of joint academic and scientific activities, such as courses, conferences, seminars, symposia or lectures; the exchange of research and teaching personnel; the exchange of publications and other materials of common interest; joint and articulated degree programmes; joint teaching, research and cultural activities; mobility of students between institutions (recognition of qualifications); staff professional development; sharing or creating education materials; external moderation of examinations papers, sharing of physical infrastructure; peer review on programmes due for accreditation by regulator; collaboration in marketing/advertising; experiential learning to both students and staff; and any other area or venture that parties may agree from time to time to collaborate on,” he stated.
Advocate Tefo Macheli, The Vice Chancellor of Limkokwing noted that this collaboration will produce well rounded graduates with exposure to courses and resources offered by both institutions.
“This collaboration will produce well rounded graduates with vast exposure to various education system and offerings. Limkokwing University students should ultimately enjoy our system and offerings and graduate having had exposure to IDM. I therefore thank the Board and Council of IDM and the University respectively, for their governance and guidance and of course endorsement to crucial efforts as these.”
In his closing remarks, The Ministry of Education’s Tertiary Manager, Mr. Thabeng Rapitso congratulated both institutions on the new partnership and mentioned that he hopes that other institutions will view this as an opportunity to form systematical partnerships and make such partnerships a new norm.
