A student from Germany, Jennifer Petra Lauber, took part in a student exchange programme to further her studies at Limkokwing University to study Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Broadcasting & Journalism.
She was studying media design at the Macromedia (MHMK) University in Germany before taking part in the programme that enabled her to experience multiculturalism. She is a person who loves to play basketball and volleyball. She also loves travelling, theatre, and musicals.
Learning about Limkokwing
While Jennifer was studying marketing in the United States, she wanted to move towards the creative aspects of marketing, which is why she decided to pursue a course in creative design so she could incorporate more of her personality into her designs.
When she heard about Limkokwing University being one of the best creative schools in Asia, she took the opportunity to receive international exposure.
“I heard that it was very international and that was very appealing for me,” she said. “I was in the United States at that time and had never been to Asia.”
International Student Community
“Meeting the people here was an amazing experience for me,” she said. “You could hear ten different languages at once.”
For Jennifer, the University’s multicultural community enabled her to develop her creativity and gain personal experience.
“Eastern education is more colourful and it allows me to understand more design styles,” she said. “This allows me to create more designs.”
“I get to interact with various cultures and people,” said Jennifer. “It was just so good to be able to get those people’s knowledge.”
She also added that this exposure gave her the chance to learn the customs and norms of different nationalities.
Interactive Activities
“There is more interaction between students and their lecturers,” said Jennifer. “It is not like where teachers talk and students listen.”
She explained that this encourages more cooperation between lecturers and students through hands-on experience.
“Students worked together on various projects,” she said while adding that the lecturers often provide guidance on the more difficult subjects during classes.
“The lectures were more software based, such as Photoshop and After Effects, which were practical and more focused.”
“Students here were very helpful and this helped me to catch up on various subjects quickly,” she added. “You can learn a lot during a very short semester because of it.”
She also added that the University’s classes are tailored to follow the student’s pace while ensuring that every student can keep up.
Supportive Mentorship
Jennifer described her experience in Malaysia as overwhelming at first, but the learning environment at the University was relaxed and the lecturers at the University are very knowledgeable and helpful.
“The lecturers here made themselves available for students, if they required any assistance,” she said. “They take the time to make sure that we fit into this course.”
“Within a week, everything was running smoothly,” she added.
