Najia Sarfraz is a take-charge person who came to Malaysia to study Bachelor of Business (Hons) in International Business together with her family.
As the Vice-President of Limkokwing University’s Pakistani Student Community, she provides leadership support for various student societies and clubs.
“For me, helping others gives me a sense of satisfaction,” she said.
Community Platform for Students
Najia helped to create a proper platform for students to come up with solutions to solve various issues.
“If anyone in the community has a problem, we try to help that person,” she explained while adding that these also include financial or moral issues. The community then works together to develop the best solutions for the students.
“It is something that we need to do as it helps to promote unity and discipline in the student community.”
Najia’s organisation has helped to organise various community events on campus and worked with other student communities of Syria, India, Iraq and Indonesia.
Building Characters
She also utilises her management skills to organise various student activities and multicultural events.
“I believe that I am more towards organising and managing events,” she said. “This platform gives the students a place to exchange their experiences and culture while building their character.”
More importantly, she encourages students to find ways to improve themselves.
“I believe that one should focus on building their character,” she said while explaining that when students interact with students from other countries, they learn to become more flexible as a person.
“You learn the best things in them and adopt their better qualities,” she added. “We show that each country represents peace and harmony.”
Learning Culture with Family
“When I came to Limkokwing, I realised that it was a place where I can build my own platform,” she said. “Not only in academic but in terms of curricula and social work.”
Najia is studying at Limkokwing University with her mother, sister and brother. Her family supports her academic studies since they are all studying within the same field.
“For other students who were coming from abroad, it was difficult. But for me, I had my family here to support me,” she said. “It did not take much time for me to adjust and it was just like a home for me.”
“My mother is pursuing PhD in Marketing while my sister is doing her PhD in Finance,” she said. “My brother is doing his Bachelor in Banking and Finance.”
Najia also enjoys the chance of conducting assignments and projects with her family. For her, it is almost like having a teacher around to constantly guide her. She explained that because they both took the same course, they could compare notes from their lessons.
Future Plans
“My father was the role model for me,” she said. “I come from a business and political background.”
“I hope to take over the family business and become involved with social work, especially in the political side of my country.”
She believes that Limkokwing University’s multicultural learning environment has made her more versatile which gave her a broader and more positive outlook on things.
This inspired her to create effective solutions back home to improve her country.
