A prize-giving ceremony for the World Animal Groove (WAG) Music Festival T-Shirt Design Competition was held to award prizes to the top winning t-shirt designs for the WAG Music Festival which will be held on 6 October at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

Organised by the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) together with their events partner Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT), the ceremony was held at the 360 Hotel Urban Resort here on Monday morning.

SSPCA President Dona Wee said that the reason for organising the competition was to raise visual awareness about the festival among the public.

“This is the first time that the SSPCA is organising an event on such a scale. This is to commemorate our 15th anniversary as well as to reach put to the youth of today to create greater awareness about abondoned animals and cruelty to animal,” she said.

She said that it was the society’s hope in the near future to be able to start SSPCA clubs in schools and universities so that students could be educated on how to give proper care to animals and pets, and also build up a core group of volunteers to assist the shelter.

All the top three prizes including the consolation prize were won by the students from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology with Ivan Joanis winning the first prize while both the second and third prizes were won by Petrus Alfred and the consolation was won by Wong Ping Ping.

Each winner received tickets to the WAG Music Festival, a t-shirt and a certificate of participation.

The t-shirt will be on sale to the public shortly and will also be available at the festival itself.

Also present during the ceremony was SSPCA Chairman Rebecca D’Cruz.
