The Faculty of Communication Media and Broadcasting (FCMB)’s Digital film and Broadcasting students presented their final projects to a panel of internal judges and on 3 June.

Students were required to work in teams and play different roles of producer, director, scriptwriter, camera operator and editor to create original marketable films based on genres of their choice.

The presentation provided a platform for students to showcase what they learnt throughout the semester. It also readied them for industry critiques and practices by encouraging active discussions with their lecturers.

FCMB’s Senior Principal Lecturer and Associate Professor, Mr. Raymond Krill, said despite the students’ multicultural mix in each group, they were able to communicate their ideas effectively with one another.

“It’s truly amazing to see students from different backgrounds come together and do good work. Six best films eligible for entering film festivals were chosen out of the 14 screened,” Mr. Krill said.

The six films chosen were; Classmate, Bertamu, Lantern, Cerbisan Memori (Pieces of Memories), The Universe/Semesta and A Day in the Life of anOrang Asli Village.

Shatish Shetty, semester 6 Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Broadcasting and Journalism student, said the film screening provided them with a deeper insight on how to improve their work to meet industry standards.

“The film screening is not only conducted for final year students, it’s done every semester, this is very important because it trains students on the best practices to adopt for their projects,” said Shatish.

He also stated that he is happy about the positive feedback their group got as it will encourage them to do better and pursue more opportunities. “When positive feedback is given one feels enthusiastic to do better,” he commented.

Aftab Alam said the screening was another stepping stone to learn as they got to also see how other students explained their concepts.
“I believe we are industry ready, the skills we learnt throughout the semester reflected on the work we presented today and it was encouraging to get positive feedback,” Aftab conceded.

“Team work is everything, I learnt this during making our final project; we faced challenges ranging from travelling costs to communication barriers as we shot our film in a different village. As a team we worked through it made it,” said Saidatul BT Ahamd Hishamnuri studying Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Digital Film & Television.

Limkokwing University modules are grounded in industry practices, with a strong focus on embedding graduates with employability skills at all stages.
