United Nations visit Limkokwing University

13 December 2012

A delegation from United Nations organisations in Malaysia last Friday visited Limkokwing University’s flagship campus in Cyberjaya. Mr Malhotra, the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative along with Ms Belmonte from UNICEF took a tour of Malaysia’s ‘Most Globalized University’. They were ushered through the Branding Gallery; the first-of-its-kind housing the initiatives that the university has taken to transform packaging for small and medium-sized enterprises especially those in the rural areas turning them into globally marketable businesses through rethinking creative design.

The purpose of their visit was to meet with the Founder and President of the university Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr Lim Kok Wing, to learn of possible collaborations in facilitating UN organizations achieve mandates in Africa, Asia and other developing countries. Tan Sri presented a brief on the university and also on previous and on-going philanthropic initiatives that Limkokwing University is involved in. Mr Malhotra said that the university’s focus on creative industries and entrepreneurship for societal development and transformation relates closely to the work that the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is currently doing parallel UNICEF’s ‘Design and Innovation for Development’ academic partnership with international universities.

Tan Sri and the delegation concluded discussions positive about the many avenues available for partnership to both parties and a Global Model United Nation Student Club formation is in the pipelines as one of the platforms for future collaborations.
