Creativity, Resourcefulness, Technical Focus, Foresight, Drive, Construction Savvy, Leadership – those are qualities a great Project Architect must possess. Our alumni Mohamad Ehab Mansour who now works for Artkitek Azman Zainal took us through what it really takes to be a seasoned Project Architect.

Headquartered in the historic city of Melaka, Artkitek Azman Zainal specialises in a wide spectrum of expertise which includes hospital planning, rehabilitation, and restoration of historic buildings to office, commercial and residential buildings to mention a few.

Combining art, science and nature for a holistic architecture approach, Arkitek Azman Zainal’s mission is to design innovative buildings with a touch of culture.

On his experience working with a Malaysian company Mohamad Ehab Mansour said, “Working in a local Malaysian company has opened my eyes more to the local communities, their needs, their culture and more importantly the tropical (vernacular) architecture that should be practiced and respected in Malaysia.”

Currently Ehab is working on an iconic bungalow in Port- Dickson. “The Architecture design of this house can be perceived as the crown of the site. It was derived from the powerful energy of the land. It’s a moving monument on top of the hill at 650 m2 made of local timber and consists of 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.”

He is also working on 8500 m2 Education department offices in Melaka.

On his path to becoming a renowned Project Architect, Ehab’s first practical project appointment was worth RM 200 million and he was at the helm of chairing meetings and coordinating consultants with the contractor. To date Idaman Residensi, Cyberjaya is Ehab’s proudest achievement.

Giving credit to his experience studying Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Architectural Studies and Master of Architecture at Limkokwing University he said, “Studying in Limkokwing university in general has given me the ground to be part of a multicultural community, affect its individuals and be affected by them. It has exposed me to a bunch of new ideologies and ways of thinking.

On the other hand, we were taught by a group of practising Architects who are quite influential and famous in Malaysia who have gained their experience from UK, Australia and New Zealand.”

Giving advice to those who are looking to pursue a career as Architects he said, “Architecture is not the same as how it was 10 years ago. An architect is not only a designer. For an architect to be successful he has to be a project manager, designer, marketer and should be able to build his own projects while exploring other ventures to support his business.”
