Limkokwing University has a long-held tradition of reaching out to the underprivileged and less fortunate members of Malaysian society. With this in mind, a group of eager Limkokwing student volunteers made time to bring cheer to the elderly residents of eight homecare centres located in the quiet suburb of Seri Kembangan, Selangor.

The visit was to commemorate the birthday of the late Founder of Limkokwing University, Tan Sri Limkokwing, which was celebrated with joy on 22 October at the Cyberjaya campus. A philanthropist, Tan Sri Limkokwing had a caring heart for the ‘forgotten’ elderly citizens left out by society to spend the rest of their lives in sheltered homes throughout the country.

During the course of the day-long visits, the Limkokwing team led by Limkokwing University alumni Shiva Kafil, called on eight homecare centres; Sincere Care Home, Wellness Elderly Home Care, Yong Le Centre Sdn Bhd, Pusat Jagaan Orang Tua Seri Kembangan, Wan Hing Home Care (Centre 2, 3, 4), and Pusat Jagaan Mahmudah.

At each centre, they were enthusiastically received by the respective managers. In all, the Limkokwing students presented 118 hampers and 242 Limkokwing T-shirts to the elderly residents who were visibly happy to see them.
The respective Managers of the centres were elated by the Limkokwing visits.

“We are so grateful and appreciate you all coming over to visit us and present us with hampers. I was very surprised by your visit because our centre is quite new but you still managed to find us!” - Chin Foong Thye, Owner and Manager at Yong Le Centre Sdn Bhd.

“My elderlies were so happy to meet you all. We hope to have more visits from you in the future. It’s great that your university has a heart for the elderly and this should be continuously practised by everyone because the majority of society has left them behind. Our country is moving towards ageing; I hope that society doesn’t forget about them.” - Michelle Yee Sook Ping, Operation Manager at Wan Hing Home Care Centres

“We are very happy and grateful to have a young group to visit us and greet our old folks here. Hopefully, this program will be continued in the future. It’s our responsibility to ensure our old folks enjoy a better life here. Thank you, Limkokwing University!” - Syafiq Mohiadin, Secretary of Persatuan Kebajikan Mahmudah Malaysia

Soon it was time to say goodbye to the managers and elderly folks at the various centres. Wan Hing Operations Manager, Michelle Yee Sook Ping summed it up rather nicely when she said, “We hope to have more visits from you in the future.
