On the eve of the recent graduation ceremony, Limkokwing University celebrated the graduating Class of 2023 with a joyous Gala Tea Reception. It was a heartfelt tribute to the years of hard work, challenges overcome, and memories made by the students.

The reception displayed unity, diversity, and creativity against the contemporary backdrop of the university’s Plaza in Cyberjaya. Beyond recognising academic accomplishments, the gala painted a vivid picture of the rich tapestry of cultures, unique talents, and inspiring stories that Limkokwing University is renowned for.

A heartfelt address from Vice-Chancellor Professor Jamal marked the event’s commencement. His words, while rooted in the university’s ethos, resonated with a broader message about the importance of global understanding and the role of education in fostering it.

The “Wings to Fly” performance and the subsequent cultural dances of Malaysia’s performance were not just entertainment but a visual representation of the university’s commitment to celebrating diversity. Each dance step and musical note told tales of traditions, histories, and identities.

A diversity parade showcase afterwards further emphasised this commitment. It was a delightful display of the myriad cultures that Limkokwing University houses, a testament to its global footprint.

However, the segment on students’ best experiences was the most poignant part of the day. As students shared their journeys, it became evident that Limkokwing University is a place of learning and a space where young minds from different corners of the world converge, share, and grow together.

Perera Kaluarachchige Yohan Sheridan, pursuing a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Games Technology, reminisced about the remarkable journey at the university, stating, “Today, we stand at the culmination of a remarkable journey, one that has shaped us into resilient and creative individuals.” He expressed heartfelt gratitude to his mother, acknowledging the unwavering support from his family and friends. He appreciated the lecturers and the education he received at Limkokwing University. He found strength and resilience, especially during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yohan Sheridan emphasised the significance of pursuing passions and viewing challenges as stepping stones to growth. He concluded by urging his peers to carry forward the spirit of Limkokwing and to harness the innovative and creative essence instilled by the university.

Similarly, Glenn Koay Tze Sh’ng, from the Bachelor (Honours) in Recording Arts, marked the day as a significant milestone. Reflecting on the transformative journey, he highlighted the self-discovery and growth experienced since the first day at Limkokwing. The challenges, resilience tests, and the university’s diverse culture were central themes of his address. He stressed the value of collaboration and the importance of embracing different perspectives. He fondly recounted late-night study sessions, challenging group projects, and cherished moments of laughter, emphasising how these experiences shaped him and his peers.

Finally, Muhammad Syakir Harith Bin Hoze Rizal, graduating with a Bachelor (Honours) in Recording Arts, took the audience on a journey of reflection and gratitude, sharing, “As I stand here, looking around, a lot of memories rush back of the first time walking through the university’s plaza. Back then, I was a nervous and anxious kid filled with excitement and uncertainty.” Over his academic tenure, he found solace and expression amidst the university’s nurturing environment, cherishing the bonds formed and the mentorship received. Beyond academics, Muhammad Syakir actively participated in various events, showcasing his talents and passions. His transformative journey at Limkokwing University instilled in him a strong sense of resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering spirit of perseverance.

The unexpected entrance of Ducati bikes was a nod to innovation and the spirit of pushing boundaries, a trait Limkokwing University has always encouraged in its students. The following musical segments, both by students and a surprise guest performer, showcased the universality of art and its power to connect us, irrespective of our backgrounds.

As Chairman of the Board of the university’s Governing Council, Dato’ Raja Aznil’s closing remarks were not just a formal end to the event but a call to action for the graduates. As they step out into the world, they carry with them a degree from Limkokwing University and the responsibility of being global ambassadors of unity, understanding, and creativity.
