Futsal team bags Championship Trophy

The Limkokwing Futsal team brought back a Championship Trophy from the Higher Education Institution Futsal Tournament (HEIFT) 2016 on 15 October.

Together with the Championship Trophy, the Limkokwing’s futsal team has also brought back a medal, a certificate and a RM1,000 Cash Prize.

The two-day futsal tournament was held at the Cyberjaya Community Club against 15 other teams from other institutions. The team competed against players from UNITAR International University, Kirkby International College and HELP College of Arts & Technology.

It was Team Captain and Futsal President Nadir Mohamed Saifeldin Fadi who helped to lead the team to victory.

“The closeness of the team is what enabled us to win,” he said. “It was a tough match, but we managed to win against the other institutions,” said Nadir who is studying Bachelors (Hons) in Islamic Banking and Finance.

“When it comes to managing a multicultural team, it is important to recognise each player’s key strengths and to come up with tactics to benefit the team,” said Nadir while explaining that talents and tactics are crucial when working as a group.

According to Mosab Imadeldin Eljamri, who is studying Foundation in Built Environment, sport such as futsal teaches students to develop strategic thinking, communication skills and teamwork spirit.

“Sports allows us to communicate across cultural and national barriers,” he said. “More importantly, a healthy body leads to a healthy mind.”

Mosab also explained that being active in sports activities such as futsal encourages healthy lifestyles among students. It also gives students the experience to work as a team and develop their soft skills.

“While playing sports, we learn soft skills such as teamwork, problem solving, strategizing and quick thinking, which will be useful in the future,” he added.

“It was a very good experience for me,” he said. “Furthermore, the multicultural learning environment at Limkokwing University helped to improve my communication skills.”

The Limkokwing Futsal team is currently seeking for more players and membership is open to all students. They can contact the Limkokwing Clubs and Societies, Student Affairs Department at 603-8317 8000 ext 8146.
