In conjunction with the International Tolerance Day celebration at Limkokwing University, the Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN), Prime Minister’s Department, hosted a unity forum at the Hall of Fame on 15 November 2016.

Themed ‘Building Bridges towards Harmony through Tolerance and Moderation’, it was held to raise awareness among participants of the forum that solidarity is an important part of cultural life in different communities in the country and need to be nurtured, strengthened and maintained.

The forum also hoped to awaken in the participants the spirit of tolerance, cooperation and mutual help, all which are the basis for social cohesion which in turn is the key strength and stability of the country.

The forum was hosted by noted academician Associate Prof. Dr. Sarjit Singh from University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and featured a panel consisting of representatives from Institut Wassatiyah Malaysia, UKM Youth Leader, Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia, Malaysia Hindu Sangam and a Sarawak activist.

The International Tolerance Day is an annual observance held annually on 16 November to strengthen unity and tolerance by generating public awareness of the dangers of intolerance and by fostering mutual understanding among the communities.

Limkokwing University was the perfect place to hold the forum as its multicultural campus environment consisted of students from more than 150 countries, all studying and working together as one united community. This is a testament of Limkokwing University’s philosophy that encourages sharing of culture as a basis for peace through understanding and appreciation.
