KDYMM Sultan of Pahang to receive Honorary Doctorate from Limkokwing University

Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan of Pahang Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mu’adzam Shah will be conferred with an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy by Limkokwing University of Creative Technology on 15 December 2012.

The Sultan is being recognized for his enormous contribution to the socio-economic well-being of the state of Pahang during his 38-year reign of Peninsular Malaysia’s largest state. He ascended the throne of Pahang on the 5 May 1974 and in April 1979 he became the seventh Yang Di-Pertuan Agung of Malaysia.

The Doctorate of Philosophy acknowledges the Tuanku’s impressive knowledge of statecraft in overseeing implementation of state projects in the course of his rule. It also recognizes his benevolence and compassion in looking after the welfare of his people.

The Sultan of Pahang is well known for his prowess in the field of sports, especially in polo. Malaysians know the Sultan for his leadership in football, having led the Football Association of Malaysia as President since 1984. The Sultan is also President of the ASEAN Football Association, a position he has held since 2011. Prior to that he was President of the Asian Football Association.

Limkokwing University this year has awarded the Honorary Doctorate recognition to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya, the Rt Hon. Dr Raila Amolo Odinga, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, the Rt. Hon. Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane and the Republic of Botswana’s Minister of Education and Skills Development, Hon. Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi.

Prime Minister of Malaysia YAB Dr Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak is among other recipients of the University’s Honorary Doctorate that include YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, YABhg Tun Dr Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi, YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus J. Ongkili, H.E. Dr Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa, H.E. Dr Festus Mogae, former President of the Republic of Botswana, H.E. Dr Pakalitha B. Mosisili, former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho.
