More than 200 young people from four orphanages trooped into the Limkokwing Plaza to kick-start the Founder’s Day celebration on 22 October 2022.

On hand to greet them was a cheerful band of Limkokwing students whose task it was to keep the children happy throughout the event. The orphans were from Pertubuhan Pusat Jagaan Limpahan Kasih, Rumah Anak Yatim dan Asnaf, Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Bimbingan At-Taqwa, Rumah Anak Yatim Mary and Maahad Tahfiz Darul Aida accompanied by their respective principals Puan Siti Hajar Ismail, Norhayati Bt Wan Abib, Miss Mala and Ustaz Ariffin.

The children, VIPs and guests were warmly welcomed by Limkokwing University Vice President YBhg Dato Dania Wahab, Chairman of the Board of Governing Council YM Dato’ Raja Aznil Bin Raja Hisham, and Vice-chancellor YBhg Dato’ Prof Dr Hj Mohd Razali Agus and Limkokwing students, faculty heads and staff.

Also invited were distinguished VIPs, Puan Nor Suhaila Binti Saat, Pengarah Jabatan Khidmat Pengurusan, Majlis Perbandaran Sepang and Yang Berusaha ASP Mohd Zaidi, Ketua Polis Balai Cyberjaya.

The Welcome sessions were over, it was time for fun. For the orphans, it was their first time at Limkokwing University and they were awed by the imposing campus environment, especially the Plaza which gave them an aura of being in a mega shopping complex!

Visibly, the orphans were won over by the Limkokwing students’ warmth and friendly nature as they went about making them at ease and encouraging the kids to check out the many fun activities laid out for them.
Later, at the Hall of Fame, the children heard inspiring speeches delivered by Limkokwing management.

In his speech, Dato’ Raja Aznil Bin Raja Hisham said, “we are here to celebrate life.” Indeed, it was all about creative innovation that embodied the late Founder’s lifetime. He also said that “Ybhg Tan Sri Dato Sri’s Limkokwing’s life was a life well-lived.” Motivating the orphans, he told them that “creativity is in everyone” and urged them to harness the “power of creativity” to shape their future.

Later, Vice-chancellor Dato Razali Agus highlighted some of the late Founder’s achievements. “On this day it is good that we highlight the great contributions of the late Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Limkokwing in philanthropic activities and the world of higher education, creativity, innovation, leadership, design and contributing to our homeland Malaysia, the African continent and globally.”

After the Limkokwing Founder’s Day scholarships presentation, the guests were ushered to the Plaza for more activities. As expected, it was the handprints session that stole their hearts, especially the kids. Our students were on hand to show them how to leave their handprints on the board.

Aminah Sadah bte Mohd Nizam from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Putra Perdana voiced her dream of studying here. “Actually, I am keen to pursue Lifestyle Creativity at Limkokwing after secondary school. I love to draw. This helps me to tap my creativity. I like the international campus atmosphere here; I hope to get to know foreign students.”

Here’s what the young orphans had to say about their Founder’s Day visit to Limkokwing.

Jibri Bin Rosli, 17, Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Bimbingan At-Taqwa:

“Drawing is my past-time hobby. Given a chance, I would like to study Business as it will develop my language and communication skills. Also, on this campus, I have the opportunity to improve my English by mixing with international students.”

Our Faculty of Business and Communication student, Salami Ibrahim from Nigeria, gave his take on the Founder’s Day event:

“Infinite kudos and blessings to Tan Sri Limkokwing.  May the soul of the late Founder Rest In Peace. Founder’s Day is a very commendable effort and I think the organisers did a good job with the charity events like the scholarships to the orphanages, and visits to the elderly and disabled. It would be wonderful if it continued yearly. This is another way to make sure his legacy lives on and is not forgotten.”

And lastly, Pramesthi Laksita Dewi from Indonesia said:

“Founders Day was the first time I participated in an event by Limkokwing University; so it was a very interesting day for me. I got to meet a lot of special people in Malaysia. I hope that we can have more activities like this in the future!”
