Monophone is back

28 March 2015

Monophone is back again. The festival will be held at the Limkokwing Hall of Fame on the 18th April, themed ‘Indonesian 90’s Generation’.

Monophone is an annual event, organised by the Merah Putih Club, a club for Indonesian students studying in Limkokwing University and throughout Malaysia. It acts as a platform for Indonesian students to express and develop their talents and creativity while sharing their culture with the world.

Monophone is one of the club’s biggest events and it has been held successfully for five straight years, with each member of Merah Putih putting in hard work to organise the event.

This year’s event guest star is RAN, a pop, soul, and R&B award winning Indonesian band. In 2009, RAN won Rolling Stone Editor’s Choice Award and “Best Group/Duo” in Kids Choice Awards by Nickelodeon. Before their performance, there will be a backstage opportunity for audience wishing to meet the band.

The event will also feature the famous Saman Dance, a traditional Indonesian dance that requires the dancers to move together in a perfect harmony. Merah Putih Saman Dance won the ‘most exciting cultural performance’ in Limkokwing Cultural Festival 2014, and the club has performed in front of many world leaders who visit Limkokwing University.

Last year the event introduced a runway fashion show that showcased Indonesian traditional clothes. This year’s fashion show will feature traditional clothes designed by Indonesian fashion students in Limkokwing. There will also be music performances during the fashion show.

The festival will premiere a short film by Merah Putih’s film production wing, Teh O Ais. The O Ais has produced many short films, music videos, and other film material, and their short film was shown in Blitz Mega Plex Cinema, the largest cinema in Indonesia. There will be an art exhibition in front of the Hall of Fame, showcasing artwork by Indonesian students and alumni of Limkokwing University.

Merah Putih will hold a pre-event audition for students wishing to perform during Monophone 2015. Tickets for Monophone 2015 are already selling at RM35 until the 13th April, where the price will go to RM45, and on-the-spot entrance fee will be RM50. A ticket to go backstage and meet RAN will sell at RM100. For ticket purchase and more details, contact Valery (+6012 923 3262) or Azalia (+6011 1228 0293).
