Limkokwing University celebrated the International Day for Tolerance on 16 November at the Hall of Fame.

The International Day for Tolerance is an annual observance declared by UNESCO in 1995 to generate public awareness of the dangers of intolerance. It is officially observed every 16th of November.

The first International Tolerance Day celebration in Malaysia was organised by the Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN) of the Prime Minister’s Department. The event was hosted by Limkokwing University in November 2014.

In the said celebration, Limkokwing University’s President and Founder Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Lim Kok Wing was recognised as Malaysia’s Goodwill Ambassador by the Prime Minister’s Department.

This year, Limkokwing University is once again the strategic partner to JPNIN in hosting the Tolerance Day celebration event.  In doing so, Limkokwing University pledges its continuous support for Malaysia’s push towards peace and tolerance.

The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Sehati’ which denotes oneness or togetherness in the effort to instil peace and stability in the country. Guests to the event were greeted upon arrival with a variety of cultural performances by both local and international students in the University. The message of acceptance and understanding presented through the performances also reflected the multicultural mix and composition of the nation.

Limkokwing University is often referred to as a “mini United Nations” for its vibrant ecosystem of students from more than 150 countries. It is a cultural melting pot of youthful creativity and the personification of unity in diversity. This diversity of cultures from all over the world has not only enabled understanding and tolerance but also fostered friendship and international networking amongst youth.

The celebration ended with the launching of ‘Sehati’, a video and song produced by Limkokwing University. The song was written to promote tolerance, respect and understanding within Malaysia and the international community.
