According to a report by Businesswire, the global telecommunications industry is expected to gain $338.8 billion of global annual sales by 2022. With trends such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud, Mobile/5G, Cybersecurity, there is increasing demand for skills and forward thinking in the ICT field.

Born and raised in Tulkarm city Palestine, our alumnus in Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Information Systems, Dr. Eng Mohammad Abu Omar is already riding the wave in changing Palestine’s ICT scene for the better. He currently heads the Computer Information Systems (CIS) department of all Al-Quds Open University branches in Palestine, and he is active in scientific research and social responsibility.

Al-Quds Open University is the first open learning institute in Palestine with 60,000 students studying at its 19 branches and centers distributed all over the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Previously Dr. Abu Omar studied Electronic Engineering and Master of Science in IT in his home town and started at Al-Quds Open University as a full-time lecturer before coming to Malaysia to enrol for his doctorate subsequently graduating in 2016.

For his work experience over the years, Dr. Abu Omar received many international honours and awards some of which are;  (Scientist) from Academic Union Oxford in UK; Gold Medal of Excellence by the Arab Organisation for Social Responsibility in Dubai, and a Global Certificate in teaching the United Nations’ SDGs by (ICSB), (UN) and (ILO) in the USA. His global humanitarian work towards improving the role of ICT in higher education earned him recognition as Global Goodwill Ambassador 2020 by USA’s Global Goodwill Ambassadors Foundation.

Dr. Abu Omar describes his PhD journey at Limkokwing University as a creative one, which helped him to be an innovative thinker. “Limkokwing is Malaysia’s University of innovation, transformation and creativity, it is the most international university with more than 160 different nationalities worldwide - it is modern, smart and up to date.”
